Zoobiotic's Biofoam dressing is a dressing system which can be used on most types of wounds requiring debridment, from small ulcers to large complicated wounds. Debridement times have been documented from as little as six to twelve hours.
Hydrophilic polyurethane foam chips provide the larve with an optimum environment which enhances there already proven clinical debridment activity whilst assisting with exudate management.
The larve are able to effectively remove devitalised tissue whilst contained within the dressing. As a result simple application techniques and ease of removal reduces dressing time. Zinc based cream is applied to healthy surrounding tissue and the dressing simply placed upon the areas requiring debridement, the size and number of dressings required is dependent upon the wound dimensions.
A lightweight absorbent dressing pad is placed and secured on top. Dressing time takes no longer than 5-10 minutes. Daily outer dressing changes allow the wound to be observed and controls the slight odour which may be created during the debridement process. Biofoam dressing can be used for up to five days. On average 1-3 applications may be required.
